Irritable bowel syndrome is a common, but still very inconvenient and sometimes painful ailment. It’s characterized by painful spasms in the intestines. Because of this, food may pass through the intestines very quickly, and may cause those who suffer from this sickness to go to the toilet many times throughout the day. Though this syndrome has many possible causes, the most common cause is food. Certain foods like chocolate, milk, caffeinated foods, and alcohol may trigger irritable bowel syndrome. IBS may be caused by food intolerance or food allergies as well. A common remedy for irritable bowel syndrome is peppermint oil, which can be found in numerous teas and balms. It is also available as a pure essential oil.
A cup or two of hot peppermint tea usually provides relief within 10 minutes. However, if you would prefer to take peppermint essential oil, you may add two to three drops of the essential oil to a cup of tea, water or rice milk. This also has a relatively quick effect.
Peppermint oil has been shown to be an effective remedy for irritable bowel syndrome by many scientific studies. It can help stop the painful spasms that occur when one suffers from irritable bowel syndrome. In addition, it does this without affecting the inner lining of the intestines, unlike many pharmaceutical remedies.
